Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner
Registered Acupuncturist
Seok-Kwon Kim, R. TCMP, R. Ac, Certified Tai Chi Instructor, B.A.

I am an R. TCMP and R. Ac, and I have been in good standing with the College of Traditional Chinese Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO).

I started my acupuncture career back in 2009 at Korean Acupuncture Research Institute in Seoul Korea and continued studying TCM at Calgary (CCTCMA) and Toronto (OCTCM). After passing the Pan Canadian Exam, I stayed in Korea for two years taking an intensive internship under Dr. Oh, a highly recognized Oriental Medicine Doctor in Korea. I also attended osteopathic classes and practiced various manual therapy treatment techniques including Dr. Ida Rolf’s Fascia Releasing method and Dr. Dallas Hancock’s Cranio-somatic technique.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?
Patients who have multiple issues and who need both manual therapy and acupuncture would be satisfied with my treatment.

As I briefly explained my career, I usually combine manual therapeutic methods with the orthodox TCM modalities (acupuncture, cupping & moxa) and these combined approaches have shown successful results, especially in addressing the conditions when emotional issues are mixed with physical tenderness: stress, anxiety, sleeping disorder, digestive discomfort, and chronic headaches which accompany tightness of the neck, shoulder and back.

My acupuncture can be explained in two ways. One is based on the traditional theory of the meridian and Five Elements which is mainly focused on internal organs-related issues. The other is an anatomical approach which is usually for musculoskeletal issues. Whatever the issues are, my acupuncture is applied after relevant manual treatments are practiced and this mixed approach is producing much more effective results.

What are the top 3 treatments that you specialize in?
I can say my fortes lie in the treatment of joint areas (the lumbar, the shoulder, and the knee) and the management of stress. Especially when it comes to lower back pain, I serve clients empathically as I myself had suffered from severe back pain decades ago.

As an R. TCMP, herbal treatment is my another primary modality, especially for constitutional and internal organ-related issues. I process the customized herbal tea based on the analysis of the client’s unique constitution and the condition of the issue.

What are you proud of in your practice?
I chose the path of a therapist as I thought it would be valuable to live a life that is full of gratitude from others. Every client leaves the clinic room feeling sincere thanks to me and this is the time I feel proud of my practice. A client who had a fertility issue recently sent me an email notifying me she got pregnant after my acupuncture and herbal treatment. I could not have had the joy of this accomplishment if I had not chosen my current job.

Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?
I prefer to see clients with chronic and multiple issues. These cases are more difficult to treat, but I could see clients get much more satisfied once they experience improvement. As a therapist, I like to challenge higher levels of difficulty.
