Adelaide | Justin Hui, RMT

Registered Massage Therapist
I have a background in Biomedical Technology and am currently building a background in applying neuro-anatomy and functional neurology into my RMT practice. NKT and P-DTR are both tools which blend treatment into assessment and provide real-time results. Both tools employ diagnostic protocols aimed at finding the origin of the dysfunction rather than just chasing pain and symptoms. Working directly with the nervous system allows us to understand why passive (unprompted) tension exists in a muscle, and why muscle tension might keep returning despite how hard and often that spot is massaged.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?
The courses I’ve taken allow me to open up avenues of treatment that many people aren’t aware of outside of the classic and expected deep tissue massage. NKT and P-DTR help return functional strength and control to otherwise dysfunctional (weak/hypertonic) muscles that we usually feel as tight and sore. I help clients sift through the motions their bodies create and clean up the muscle recruitment process so they don’t ‘cheat’ their way through proper biomechanics.

I also have experience working with athletes, particularly martial artists, baseball players and softball players.

What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?
I focus on cleaning up joint movements – releasing overworking/compensating muscles and teaching clients to fire muscles that are under-working. I also treat dysfunctional nerve receptors that may be giving the brain ‘too much’ information (causing downregulation of muscle movement). I have a lot of experience with treating low back pain and tight diaphragms, educating clients on the importance of proper breathing mechanics and how it translates to all aspects of life. I also like putting people to sleep with relaxation massages!

What are you proud of in your practice?
I’m proud of the knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years of my practice, showing me how vast the world of manual therapy really is. I am particularly proud of the feedback I’ve received from clients saying that I treat “similarly to a physiotherapist” on multiple occasions. My favourite moments are the ones where clients immediately start smiling when they notice the freedom from restriction of pain and tightness (sometimes in seconds!), especially the cases where pain has affected this person for years.

Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?
I love the cases where the source of pain turned out to be something from my client’s past that was thought as nothing to do with their current pain/chief complaint. Nobody really expects the pain to be coming from a tight muscle (because of weakness) which is being driven by an old ligament dysfunction, injury, scar or piercing from 6+ years ago.
