Yonge & Bloor | Dhwani Joshi, Registered Social Worker
Dhwani is a registered social worker with a Master of Social Work degree and an International Social Work diploma from Wilfred Laurier University. She also received her Honors Bachelor of Science degree from University of Toronto. From a very young age, Dhwani found herself being curious about understanding human behavior and learning about why we are the way we are. And so, she responded to this inner calling to help others pursue the most authentic version of themselves through the process of psychotherapy.
Dhwani’s clinical practice is rooted in a mind-body approach, as she firmly believes that the unprocessed hurts experienced in life not only impact the mind, but also transcend the human body. She is a strong believer that both the mind and body hold much wisdom, which in turn have potential to influence how you cope in your day-to-day life at work, home, with friends or even in relationship and dating interactions. “The body always tells the story”, as she puts it.
Speaking of the human body, Dhwani takes great pride in getting her body moving through the gentle martial art of Jiu Jitsu. Her happy place is on the mats of her martial arts gym, where she playfully gets lost in the world of ground fighting.
Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?
Dhwani strongly believes that people heal and grow in the presence of a strong therapeutic connection. She works diligently to ensure she remains attuned, present, and non-judgemental with her patients to foster a mutually satisfying relationship in the therapy room.
What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?
Every individual brings their own lived stories and life journeys, and so Dhwani manoeuvres between a broad range of therapeutic modalities to best suit her clients’ needs. Broadly speaking, she will utilize skills-focused treatment (to help you strategize in managing day to day stressors) or a process-focused treatment (to help you dive deeper into exploring why you are struggling the way you are), based on where you are at in your growth journey.
What are you most proud of in your practice?
The breakthroughs and the ‘aha!’ moments. There is nothing more humbling for Dhwani than to see her patients have those pivotal moments when they start coping with challenges in a new way and finally understand something important about themselves for the first time.
Which cases do you enjoy treating and why?
All cases are intriguing and challenging for Dhwani in their own unique way. Most often, she thrives on working with those that are motivated and driven to seek personal growth as well as a deeper understanding of themselves.
