Yonge & Bloor | Amit Dureja, Osteopathic Manual Practitioner

Amit Dureja

Osteopathic Manual Practitioner

Amit’s initial interest in osteopathy developed through his own experience with injuries from the gym, and the benefits he gained through osteopathy.  After experiencing the overall health benefits attained from osteopathy for himself and his family through its holistic approach, he was immersed and fascinated by this timeless art and science.

He is a member of OSTCAN – Ontario Osteopathic Association (OOA) since 2019.

Osteopathy is a treatment philosophy which seeks to identify areas of the body that are restricted or constricted, then gently ease their restrictions so that normal function can resume.

Osteopathic Manual Practitioners identify restrictions that may inhibit inherent healing through precise palpation skills and relieve them so the body can naturally restore health to the areas in distress.

Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?

Osteopathic Manual Therapy is an integrative health therapy taking into consideration all the systems in the body. I use gentle and effective manual treatments to explore the body’s ability to self-heal and self-regulate. The treatments work to promote and help patients sustain a healthy lifestyle. My philosophy and practise is always focused to deal with the root cause of the health concern and not just the symptoms. I work very closely with the patient and use the principles of Classical Osteopathy as put forward by Dr. A.T. Still,  to realign and rebalance the body so that it can perform its optimal function.

What are you proud of in your practice?

I am proud to be a graduate of the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy, a school which teaches Classical Osteopathy from the humble beginnings of Osteopathic literature and puts into practice at least 1000 (hands-on training) hours before graduating the 4-year program. It is a principle based education that builds a strong foundation in Osteopathic principles to treat the body as a whole, going above and beyond using only techniques. I am proud to have dedicated and sincere clients who believe in me and my philosophy of treatments and return back even after years if needed.

What are the top 3 treatments that you specialize in?

Osteopathy is holistic, traditional and drug-free manual therapy and makes use of manual assessment and treatment. The goal of the practitioner is to find the underlying cause of the symptoms the body is experiencing and restoring the natural healing capabilities of the body. Osteopathic treatment works to restore proper body mechanics, nerve impulses and the circulation of body fluids. Craniosacral is used as a part of the treatment and not as a standalone. The treatments are not time based; they are based on what your body’s needs are at that time.

What cases do you enjoy treating and why?

Since osteopathic treatments are very gentle, it can help all populations of people from an infant to a senior adult. Osteopathic treatments are safe, gentle and relaxing, and people who receive it are more likely to have an increase of vitality and better overall health.

My special interest has been treating chronic Issues that are lingering on and doesn’t seem to go away. It gives me great pleasure to be a part of their healing journey towards a pain free life.

I also love treating kids, teenagers and all stages of Adolescence. Adolescence is the period of transition between childhood and adulthood. This is the time when some big changes happen- to the body, and the way a young person relates and sees the world.  Every parent’s priority is to provide the best support and environment for their child’s development and growth. At every stage of adolescence, the body is still growing and developing, while coping with varied demands from sports, studying and other social and physical activities. Along with that, the increased use of technology such as, smartphones and tablets can affect the posture and lead to upper back pain, neck pain and even headaches.

In today’s society the most common work related issues are musculoskeletal problems. Most of work-related issues are cumulative disorders, resulting from repeated exposure to high or low intensity loads over a long period of time. I enjoy helping corporate world people with workplace strains which can be due to various reasons such as prolonged sitting at desk, excessive periods of repetitive motion, using computer without taking breaks and much more.
