Yonge & Wellington | Kate Balen, RMT
Kate is a Registered Massage Therapist and graduate of the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy, with a diverse background in personal training, group fitness, and athletic performance. Before becoming an RMT, Kate worked in women’s health and sport-specific training, where she developed a passion for movement, injury prevention, and rehabilitation.
An athlete herself, Kate has a background in rugby, swimming, Olympic weightlifting, and bodybuilding, and understands firsthand the physical and mental demands of high-level training. Her experiences have shaped a deep appreciation for recovery, and a desire to support others in achieving peak performance while staying injury-free.
Kate’s massage therapy practice is rooted in collaborative care. She has worked alongside physiotherapists and athletic trainers, and has supported athletes across a wide range of sports—from weekend warriors and high school athletes to professionals in the NHL, MLS, and Rugby 7s. Her treatments are informed by evidence-based techniques and a whole-body approach that emphasizes long-term health and performance.
Now based in Toronto, Kate is passionate about creating a positive impact in the health and wellness space. She works with individuals of all backgrounds to manage stress, injuries, muscle imbalances, and overall well-being. Outside of her practice, she is pursuing a Business Management degree at BCIT and loves spending time outdoors, walking her dog, traveling, and enjoying a good scoop of ice cream.
Why should patients choose you as their provider instead of others in the area?
I bring a unique combination of experience in massage therapy, personal training, and sports—particularly with athletic populations like rugby players, lifters, and team sport athletes. I’m passionate about helping people move and feel their best, and I approach every treatment with curiosity, care, and a commitment to ongoing learning. Whether you’re dealing with an injury or simply want to take better care of your body, I’m here to support your goals.
What are the top 3 treatments you specialize in?
Sports Therapy – targeted, functional treatments for athletes at any level
Fascial Stretching – to increase mobility, reduce pain, and enhance performance
Trigger Point & Deep Tissue Work – for relieving chronic tension and restoring muscular balance
What are you proud of in your practice?
I’m proud to work with a wide range of patients—from high-performance athletes to clients focused on stress management and recovery. I take pride in meeting people where they’re at and creating a space that feels safe, encouraging, and effective.
Which cases do you enjoy treating and why?
I especially enjoy treating acute sports injuries, particularly in athletes, because I’ve been there—I know how frustrating and isolating injury can be. It’s incredibly rewarding to help someone return to their sport feeling stronger and more resilient. I also value working with clients managing stress and anxiety, and strive to create a treatment space where they can fully relax and reconnect with their bodies.
